What this tool does
- HEIC and HEIF photos to JPG or PNG
- Decoded on your device with a WebAssembly build of libheif
- Rotation stored in the file applied, so photos come out upright
- Multi-frame HEIF sequences refused rather than reduced to one frame
- Reads the file signature instead of trusting the file extension.
- Applies EXIF orientation once, so a rotated photo exports the way you see it.
- Flattens transparent areas onto the background color you choose when you export JPG.
- Rejects animated images instead of exporting a single frame without telling you.
- Reports the measured size of the file your browser produced.
Questions about HEIC to JPG
- What is a HEIC file?
- HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads save by default. It keeps photos small, but many Windows programs, Android apps and websites cannot open it, which is why people convert it to JPG.
- Can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC?
- Yes. On the iPhone, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay HEIC, which is what this tool is for.
- Why does the first conversion take a moment?
- The HEIC decoder is loaded the first time you convert a photo on this page, because browsers other than Safari cannot read HEIC by themselves. After that it stays loaded until you leave the page.
- What about Live Photos and burst shots?
- The still image of a Live Photo is an ordinary HEIC file and converts normally; the short video part is a separate file and is not touched. A HEIF file holding a sequence of frames is refused, rather than silently keeping only the first frame.
- Is the location data in my photo kept?
- No. The converted file is drawn fresh and no metadata is copied into it, so the GPS location and camera details stored in the HEIC are not carried over.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. This tool runs inside your browser tab, so the file bytes are read and written on your own device and are never sent to us for processing. Closing the tab discards everything, which is also why results cannot be restored after a reload.
