Rotate or flip an image

Turn images 90 or 180 degrees, or mirror them horizontally or vertically, and download the corrected files. The rotation is applied to the pixels, so every program shows it the same way.

    What this tool does

    • Quarter and half turns
    • Horizontal and vertical mirroring
    • Applied after the camera EXIF orientation, so the starting point is what you see
    • Output as JPG, PNG or WebP
    • Reads the file signature instead of trusting the file extension.
    • Applies EXIF orientation once, so a rotated photo exports the way you see it.
    • Flattens transparent areas onto the background color you choose when you export JPG.
    • Rejects animated images instead of exporting a single frame without telling you.
    • Reports the measured size of the file your browser produced.

Questions about Rotate or flip image

Why does my photo look rotated in some programs but not others?
Phone cameras often store a photo sideways with a tag that says how to turn it, and not every program reads that tag. This tool applies the tag first and then your own rotation directly to the pixels, and writes a file with no tag left to disagree about.
    Does rotating reduce quality?
Saving as PNG loses nothing. Saving as JPG or WebP encodes the image again, which is lossy, at a high default quality. Choose PNG if you need the pixels unchanged.
Can I rotate by an angle that is not a right angle?
No. Only 90, 180 and 270 degree turns are offered, because any other angle has to invent corners for the tilted picture.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs inside your browser tab, so the file bytes are read and written on your own device and are never sent to us for processing. Closing the tab discards everything, which is also why results cannot be restored after a reload.
    How much does it cost?
The tools on this page are free to use, with up to 3 files per job. Paid plans for larger batches are described on the pricing page but are not on sale yet.
