    Questions about Convert to WebP

    Is WebP always smaller?
Often, but not always, and this page does not promise a percentage. Each result shows the measured size of the WebP your browser produced, next to nothing invented.
    Which browsers can open WebP?
All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari display WebP. Some older desktop programs and print services still cannot, which is when a JPG or PNG copy is useful.
Why does my browser give me a PNG instead?
A few browsers cannot encode WebP even though they can display it. If that happens, the result says so and reports the format that was actually produced, instead of labelling a PNG as WebP.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs inside your browser tab, so the file bytes are read and written on your own device and are never sent to us for processing. Closing the tab discards everything, which is also why results cannot be restored after a reload.
    How much does it cost?
The tools on this page are free to use, with up to 3 files per job. Paid plans for larger batches are described on the pricing page but are not on sale yet.
