What this tool does

  • Removes the open password using the one you enter
  • Wrong passwords refused, never guessed
  • Pages copied unchanged into a document with no encryption
  • Password never leaves this tab
  • Reads the file signature instead of trusting the file extension.
  • Copies real pages. Nothing is rasterized and no page is re-rendered.
  • Refuses encrypted PDFs instead of working around the protection.
  • Refuses digitally signed PDFs, because saving them again would break the signature.
  • Reports the measured size of the file your browser produced.

Questions about Unlock PDF

Can you unlock a PDF if I do not know the password?
No. This tool only removes protection with the correct password. It does not try to guess, crack or work around one, and it never will.
Is anything lost when the PDF is unlocked?
The pages, their text and images are copied unchanged. Document-level extras such as bookmarks, form fields and attachments are not carried over to the unlocked copy, so keep the original if you need them.
Why was my signed PDF refused?
Unlocking writes the document again, which would break its digital signature while the file still looked signed. Refusing is more honest than handing back a document with a broken signature.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs inside your browser tab, so the file bytes are read and written on your own device and are never sent to us for processing. Closing the tab discards everything, which is also why results cannot be restored after a reload.
