Questions about Video converter

Why is it slower than desktop software?
ffmpeg runs inside your browser on one processor thread. A short phone clip takes seconds; a long or high-resolution video can take several minutes. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
Why is a GIF limited to 15 seconds?
GIF has no real video compression, so longer clips become enormous. Only the first 15 seconds are turned into a GIF, and the result says so when the video was longer.
How large a video can I convert?
Up to 20,000,000 bytes, the same per-file limit as every tool here, so the conversion fits in a browser tab memory on phones too.
Which ffmpeg build is used?
The ffmpeg.wasm core 0.12.10, which is ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly and includes GPL-licensed encoders. It is used unmodified, and its source code is published at github.com/ffmpegwasm/ffmpeg.wasm.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The ffmpeg converter (about 32 MB) is downloaded to your browser the first time you use this tool, and your file is processed on your own device. Nothing you choose is sent to us or to the download service.
